Seed and Plant Exchange

E-mail Print PDF

We were chatting with Jean on Thursday, and she mused that it would be a good idea if there were somewhere she could go to either exchange seeds or get spare plants to fill in gaps where her beans had not succeeded. Behold, the birth of Seed and Plant Exchange! Actually, it is just a new message board on our forum [click on the Forum button on the top menu]. It is not a For Sale board, it is for people who genuinely want to find a good home for their surplus seeds or fruit and vegetable plants and are willing to give to another grower.

It is simple to use; just post a message on the board saying what you are offering or what you need and a rough idea of where you live (e.g. Holmfirth); do not post your email address, home address or telephone number - it will be available to everyone on the Internet and you don't want spam or worse in your inbox! If you see something listed that you would like, you can either post a reply to the message or (better still) send a Private Message to the original poster - they will receive an email from the Forum Manager telling them to look in their Private Messages Inbox. From then on you can decide between yourselves how you effect the exchange.

If the original poster could post a reply to their own message saying whether the seeds/plants are still available or that they have been taken, then that would be great.

Please let me know if you have any problems using this facility.

Administration.

Huddersfield and Holmfirth May 2009

We had great fun and met lots of people on the weekend of 9th/10th May 2009.

At the Huddersfield Town Centre Plant Sale on 9th May we were inundated with people interested in starting their own vegetable plot, as well as those willing to give advice on growing from their years of experience.

Eat the Suburbs

E-mail Print PDF

EAT THE SUBURBS takes the oil debate from the bowser to the backyard and follows Melbourne's "permablitzers" as they prepare for the end of the oil age... one garden at a time.

Peak oil theorist Richard Heinberg believes global oil production will climax in 2010, sending our oil-dependent food infrastructure into a tailspin. Modern conventional farming uses 10 calories of fossil fuel energy to produce one calorie of food energy. A group of young permaculture activists in Melbourne is trying to address this imbalance. One garden at a time, they are digging in and converting suburban lawns to tiny organic farms.

We need space to grow

E-mail Print PDF

Do you know of any waste land that could be used for growing food?

Do you have a garden or portion of a garden which you would be prepared to let a friend or neighbour cultivate in return for a supply of fresh fruit and vegetables?

Do you want to grow your own fruit and vegetables but have no land on which to grow?

Then please get in touch with us here at Incredible Edible Huddersfield
