Growing space for town centre cafes

E-mail Print PDF

It may be small beginnings, but enthusiasm is spreading. In December 2008, Barry Sheerman, Labour MP for Huddersfield, accepted a planter full of growing herbs and vegetables on behalf of the Verve Cafe in Byram Street, and now several other cafes have expressed an interest in having a similar planter.

It is hoped that the planter will act as a catalyst for food growth within the town centre and will encourage local food production in Huddersfield as a whole. This in turn will lead to resilience for the whole community.

The planter is a symbol of the town's growing commitment to local produce. We would like to hear from any other town centre cafes who would like to participate in this growing movement (pun intended). Please contact Norah for more details.
